Our Story

How it all started...

On November 12, 1939, our church began in an old store building located on Oak Lane in Dallas. We started with sixteen charter members, and our church was named Missionary Baptist Church. After much growth, we moved to Reed Lane, and became Reed Lane Baptist Church. In 1955, we relocated once again to Bruton Road and built a new facility, becoming Bruton Road Baptist Church. Homer Adams, the founder of our church, pastored for twenty years until his death in 1959. At that time, his grandson, Gary Coleman, became the pastor and served for five years. Then in February, 1965, Brother Clyde Spain was called as our pastor, serving for over twenty-three years. During that time, he trained a “Timothy”, Brother Nelson Leeman, who became our pastor in 1988. Pastor Leeman led us to relocate our ministry to our present location in Mesquite, becoming the Cornerstone Baptist Church of Mesquite in July, 1997. Brother Leeman pastored for over 25 years and retired in December 2013.

Expanding the vision...

Our church is currently being led by Pastor Dan Brower. Dan and his wife Charity have served inour ministry in different capacities since January 1996. In April 2014, he became our lead pastor, and we are excited about the vision God has placed on Dan’s heart for the future of Cornerstone! His focus on discipleship is establishing a foundation that will impact our community and the world for God’s glory!

Where we are headed...

The spiritual goals of our church have not, and will not change, even though the name of our church has changed through the years. Preaching God’s Word, sharing the Good News about the love of Jesus Christ, and developing fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ will continue to be our mission at Cornerstone! Our desire is to be a beacon of light and hope for our community and our city, as we love and serve those around us. It is a privilege to be able to partner with God in building His Church, and we are excited to see how God will use us toward that end in the future!
